activity #7 midterm

Art can be express in many different themes and purposes. In this exhibition, I will discuss and explore six paintings by Marc Chagall under the theme “Invention and Fantasy”. When you say the word “Fantasy” you think about imaginary things. Fantasies are imaginary things that make people happy and sometimes sad up by people. The paintings are from the Modern Art Museum. The artist Marc Chagall shows us the viewer the similarities and differences of each of his six paintings.
One similarity of the six paintings is that three of the paintings were painted with water color and pencil on paper, two of the paintings were painted with water color, pencil and ink on paper and one painting was painted on oil on canvas. All six of these painting were painted in 1942. In two of the paintings the artist used animal costumes to capture the eyes of the viewer. For-example in the painting “A Cat”, a woman is wearing a cat mask and a tail to bring the fantasy to life in begin a cat. In the painting “A Bandura Player, a Bear and Zemhira” the artist uses an illusion of a two headed figure. He also used the principle element shape to define the two figures dimensional having identifiable boundaries, created by lines. In this painting he truly used his invention to bring out the fantasy of the painting. He made a costume where the two head figure is dress like a violin.
The artist Chagall uses primary colors in five of his paintings to bring out the figures. In the painting “Over Vitebsk” the artist uses proportion to let the viewer see the objects in the painting. Proportions are appropriate dimensions or a harmonious arrangement of parts. Also in the painting “Over Vitesk” he painted the figure in dark colors to capture the naked eye of the people viewing this painting. For example, the figure is flying over the town with a cane and bag over his shoulder all painted dark in color. Also in the painting the artist let the viewer see the tall buildings painted in primary colors to bring out the texture of the painting. In all six paintings the artist illustrates Kinetic art to show how the figures in the painting express some type of movement. For example, the painting “A Cat”, the woman is dancing with an umbrella as if she’s out side in the rain. The painting “Gypsies and Horse” the artist dressed the figures in many primary colors to show a celebration of a special event has occurred. The people and the figure in the costume a horse is dancing, laughing and having fun. All the paintings demonstrate the use of lines and contour lines which the artist used to identify its figures. Finally, the painting of “A Rooster” is more noticeable then any of the other paintings because the artist used black lines to outline the figure. This painting was also outstanding piece of art because he used both invention and fantasy to make painting be noticed.
These paintings demonstrate the artist use of design elements and principles, themes and purpose. One can say that all his paintings are extraordinary, because of the love the artist have for his artworks.

Dear Matt,

this exhibition includes some of my favorite images from one of my favorite artists, Marc Chagall. I own one of his lithographs.

the essay is clearly seeking to compare and contrast the works.

The theme is perfect for Chagall's work.

Comments:

The paragraphs need strong thesis sentences to help them stay focused and organized.

Example:

Paragaph #2. Begins:

"One similarity of the six paintings is that three of the paintings were painted with water color and pencil on paper, two of the paintings were painted with water color, pencil and ink on paper and one painting was painted on oil on canvas."

This is apparently about medium; but then it jumps to:

" In two of the paintings the artist used animal costumes to capture the eyes of the viewer. For-example in the painting “A Cat”, a woman is wearing a cat mask and a tail to bring the fantasy to life in begin a cat. "

Do you see how the two are different topics in the same paragraph?

This makes for confusing reading.

Consider:

One similarity of the six painting is that all have qualities of an imaginary world. "A Cat" depicts a woman weariing a cat mask and displaying a tail combining human and animal features in a fantastic way....

Do you see where this is going?
